I have been experimenting with 3D-printing about half an year.
I am quite positive about benefits of this technique. 
Of course 3D-printing takes time, for example I am usually printing
30-60 hours prints,  so it means quite many sleepless nights.
But costs for 50x20x20 cm object are about price of one roll of filament
30 euros.

Lost PLA technique in aluminium casting

I tried how PLA works in lost wax technique casting aluminiun.
Results were quite positive. PLA melts in 200 C, so it can
be used  instead of wax. But some prefer taking molds from 3D-printed objects and casting
in wax.

Leapfrog Creatr XL Dual extruder

My experience with Minifactory has been quite positive. I am able to print at low cost my  3D-modeled sculptures to PLA.
My 3D-models can be quite complicated, but with  Netfabb I have been able to repair most mesh problems.
I found out that  Leapfrog is building bigger 3D-printers for home printing. 

So, now I am 3D-printing with Leapfrog Creatr XL Dual extruder bigger printer bigger objects. Firmware to G-Code is Simplify 3D.

After some 3D-printing, polishing and spray painting

This Passage-scuplture is 3D-printed of 15 PLA  pieces, gun glued together and spray painted. Size 43 x 33 x 12 cm. Wall 3 mm. I modeled it with Rhino, I sweeped one rail of my husbands and son's profiles.

3D-printed collage

Easy way to make bigger sculptures is to glue them together with gun glue. Works quite easy with 
PLA. I also tried to welding plastic PLA with my Dremel, just put 2-3 cm long filament to Dremels head, rolling around and touching a object heats the filament and it works like metal welding, but remember to use safety goggles!

My 3D-printing experience is growing and I try printing very thin objects of PLA. Sticking to the heated bed is still somewhat problematic. I am planning to 3D-print quite a big object and gluing parts together.

Today I started as a 3D-printer. I am a total beginner.  My machine is Minifactory with maximum print size 150mm x 150mm x 150mm. It has a strong metal chassis, so it seem quite durable and stable. First sounds are so robotic. But 3D-printing doesn't come easy. 

First job installing Repetier Host firmware  to my Modbook takes quite amount of my precious time. But finally I get decent G-Codes. Then I start warming up  my MF and try to get PLA filament through nozzle. The filament tries ...
